   By this afternoon I had recovered both the authentication and the DNS 

   Another server, calcutta.flora.ca, started to make a beeping noise 
and I detected that the power supply FAN was not spinning.  Rather than 
switch power supplies/etc, I added that disk to another computer running 
Xen and booted calcutta on that machine.

   I had not cleaned up the machines since the move home from CooperIX. 
  The plan is to place the machines in a room that is much cooler than 
the rest of the house, but I have not yet had time to organize this.
