Net pioneer John Gilmore is often quoted: "The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it."
Lawrence Lessig wrote "The myth of the Net is that it is a weapon of free speech, a weapon against aggression."
Lessig argues that there is a complex interaction between architecture (code), social mores, the market, and government regulation in creating what we take for granted in our society.
